Social Insurance in Cyprus
The Cyprus social insurance system is required for all those who work in Cyprus. It is subsidized by tax from employees, employers and the state and provides pensions and benefits in all areas of social security.
If you were paying contributions to Cypriot social insurance, your family and you are allowed to have free or financed medical and dental treatment. Any person who has paid standard social security contributions in another EU country for two full years prior to coming to Cyprus is entitled to comparable cover for a limited period, and EU pensioners are allowed to have free healthcare.
Benefits comprise general and specialist care, laboratory services, hospitalization, basic dental care, discounted drugs and medicines, maternity care, appliances and transportation.
Cyprus has a well-organized network of government general hospitals and clinics in urban areas and health centers and dispensaries in more rural areas as well.
EU Citizens
Anyone who has paid standard social security contributions in another EU country for two full years before coming to Cyprus is entitled to public health cover for a short period from the date of their last contribution. You should acquire social security form E106 from the social security authorities in your home country and submit it to your local Social Insurance office in Cyprus.
Pensioners living in Cyprus and receiving a state pension from another EU country are allowed to have to free or subsidized state healthcare. You will have to obtain the required forms from your home country and submit them with your application for a medical card in Cyprus.
